Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Reports Second Week Results of Festive R.I.D.E. Program
As the holiday season approaches, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are ramping up their efforts to keep our roads safe through their annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program. The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment has released results from the second week of this important initiative, which runs from November 20, 2025, until January 1, 2026.
During the week of November 27 to December 3, OPP officers conducted a total of 31 RIDE checks throughout the Upper Ottawa Valley area. These checks are crucial in helping to deter impaired driving, a significant concern during the festive season when celebrations often include alcohol consumption.
In a collaborative effort to ensure community safety, the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP partnered with the Deep River Police Service for two joint RIDE checks. This teamwork illustrates the commitment of local law enforcement agencies to work together in the fight against impaired driving.
The results of the second week were encouraging yet serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges. One driver received a three-day licence suspension during this period, highlighting the consequences of impaired driving. While this may seem like a small number, the OPP emphasizes that every instance of impaired driving poses a risk to everyone on the road.
The Festive R.I.D.E. campaign is more than just a series of checks; it is a community engagement initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. This year, the OPP encourages all Ontarians to take personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of others. Whether it’s planning a designated driver, using public transit, or calling a taxi, the message is clear: don’t drink and drive.
As Canadians, it is essential to cherish the spirit of the holidays while also ensuring the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. The OPP’s commitment to reducing impaired driving through initiatives like the Festive R.I.D.E. program not only protects lives but fosters a culture of responsible behaviour on the roads.
As the campaign continues, community members are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers to the authorities. Together, we can make a significant impact on road safety during this festive season and beyond.
The OPP will continue to monitor and report on the progress of the Festive R.I.D.E. program over the coming weeks. It’s a community effort, and each of us plays a vital role in ensuring our roads remain safe for everyone.
