OPP West Region Reports 95 Impaired Driving Charges in Festive RIDE Campaign

As the holiday season approaches, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) West Region is ramping up efforts to keep our roads safe. The 2025 Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign has entered its third week, and the results so far are concerning yet unsurprising.

Throughout the first two weeks of the campaign, OPP officers have conducted a total of 1,055 RIDE check events across 13 detachments in the West Region, which includes areas like Brant County, Chatham-Kent, and Essex County. The statistics reveal that 95 individuals have been charged with impaired driving, alongside 39 warn-range suspensions.

This is a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving, particularly during the festive season when celebrations often lead to increased alcohol consumption. With holiday parties and gatherings on the rise, the OPP emphasizes that everyone has a role to play in ensuring the safety of our communities.

Provincially, the OPP has laid 409 impaired driving charges and issued 39 warn-range suspensions during 3,595 RIDE check events across Ontario. These numbers illustrate a troubling trend that necessitates continuous vigilance from both law enforcement and the public.

The Festive RIDE campaign not only focuses on enforcement but also seeks to educate the public about the dangers of impaired driving. The OPP encourages all Canadians to plan ahead if they intend to drink, whether that means designating a sober driver, using public transit, or opting for rideshare services.

As the campaign continues, it is crucial for individuals to recognize that impaired driving is a serious offense that can have devastating consequences. In a country like Canada, where road safety is paramount, the OPP’s commitment to reducing impaired driving is a call to action for all drivers to take personal responsibility.

With the holiday season upon us, let’s work together to keep our roads safe. The OPP’s efforts remind us that while holiday cheer is important, safety should never take a back seat.
