Head-On Collision in Prince Edward County Leads to Impaired Driving Charges
In a troubling incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving, Prince Edward County saw a serious head-on collision on Highway 62 on December 3, 2025. Shortly after 8:00 PM, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the scene following reports of a crash that could have had catastrophic consequences.
The investigation revealed that a passenger vehicle travelling southbound was struck head-on by another vehicle that crossed the centre line. Thankfully, the driver of the southbound vehicle sustained only minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures.
However, the driver of the northbound vehicle faced much graver repercussions. Upon the arrival of OPP officers, an approved roadside alcohol screening device was utilized, leading to the arrest of the driver, who was taken to the detachment for further testing.
Crystal Lepp, a 48-year-old from Brantford, has been charged with multiple offenses, including:
-
Operation while impaired - alcohol
-
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
-
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving, particularly as Ontario experiences harsher winter weather. With icy roads and reduced visibility, the risk of accidents increases significantly.
In addition to facing charges, Lepp’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle involved was impounded. The accused is currently being held pending a bail hearing, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
The OPP continues to enforce strict measures against impaired driving, especially during this time of year when many Canadians are celebrating the holiday season. With an increase in social gatherings, the risk of impaired driving is heightened, making it imperative for individuals to make responsible choices if they plan to consume alcohol.
This incident not only highlights the dangers of impaired driving but also calls attention to the importance of road safety across Ontario. The OPP encourages all drivers to stay vigilant and make safe decisions to ensure that our roads remain safe for everyone.
As the winter months approach, let’s remember to look out for each other and keep our roads safe. Whether it’s arranging for a designated driver or utilizing rideshare services, we all have a role to play in preventing impaired driving incidents.
