Dundalk Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Collision in Orangeville
In a concerning incident on November 26, 2025, a Dundalk man has been charged with serious impaired driving offences following a single-vehicle collision in Orangeville, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Dufferin Detachment reported that Joshua Reid, a 20-year-old resident of Dundalk, attempted to evade the consequences of his actions after crashing his vehicle.
The incident took place around 11:33 PM when Reid lost control of his car at the intersection of Orange Street and Chisholm Street. The vehicle collided with a tree before becoming lodged on a stump. Instead of remaining at the scene to assist or provide information, Reid and his passenger fled on foot toward a nearby housing complex.
Thanks to the swift response from OPP officers, the scene was secured, and an investigation commenced immediately. Witnesses provided crucial information that pointed towards the possibility of impaired driving, prompting officers to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Reid was subsequently charged with three significant offences:
-
Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
-
Failure or refusal to comply with a demand
-
Fail to remain at the scene of an accident
These charges serve as a stark reminder about the dangers of impaired driving, a serious issue that affects communities across Canada. The OPP has consistently advocated for safe driving practices, particularly during the holiday season when the incidence of impaired driving tends to rise.
As a consequence of this incident, Reid’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle will be impounded for a week. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville to answer to these charges.
The Dufferin OPP is urging all motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs, emphasizing the importance of designated drivers or alternative transportation to prevent such incidents. The ramifications of impaired driving extend beyond legal consequences; they can irreversibly impact the lives of individuals and families.
As we approach the festive season, it is crucial for all Canadians to prioritize safety on the roads. With celebrations and gatherings on the horizon, ensuring that you or someone else is always sober when behind the wheel is a responsibility we all share. Let’s work together to keep our roads safe and our communities thriving.
