Arran-Elderslie Man Arrested After Brandishing Firearm During Altercation

A tense situation unfolded in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie, Ontario, when the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a weapons call on November 27, 2025. At approximately 9:46 PM, officers were alerted to a residence in Paisley where an altercation between two individuals had escalated to the alarming point of a firearm being brandished.

According to police reports, the individuals involved were known to each other, indicating that this was an isolated incident rather than a random act of violence. The victim, understandably shaken, fled the scene and contacted authorities for assistance.

Upon arrival, officers acted swiftly to contain the property, leading to the surrender of the accused, Timothy Collins, a 53-year-old resident of Arran-Elderslie. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from the incident, a fact that provides some relief in what could have been a much more tragic outcome.

In the days following the altercation, police executed a search warrant at Collins’ residence on November 28. This operation yielded the seizure of several firearms and ammunition, a concerning discovery that highlights the potential dangers of firearms in domestic disputes.

Timothy Collins now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Pointing a firearm (Criminal Code Section 87)

  • Assault with a weapon (Criminal Code Section 267(a))

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (Criminal Code Section 354(1)(a))

Collins was held for a bail hearing shortly after his arrest and has since been released from custody. He is scheduled to appear at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice on January 7, 2025, to answer to these serious allegations.

This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of addressing domestic conflicts before they escalate into violence. The OPP encourages anyone who may have information related to this incident or similar situations to come forward and assist in ensuring community safety.

As Canadians, we must remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the presence of firearms in our communities, particularly in domestic situations where tensions can run high. The swift action of the South Bruce OPP in this case not only highlights their commitment to public safety but also underscores the need for continued awareness and prevention efforts surrounding weapon-related incidents.
