Stunt Driving on Highway 11 in Kirkland Lake Leads to Drug Seizure and Arrests

In a striking example of law enforcement’s commitment to road safety and drug control, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Kirkland Lake made significant arrests following a routine traffic stop on Highway 11. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 19, 2025, when officers were conducting speed enforcement in Grenfell Township.

At approximately 2:50 a.m., officers flagged down a vehicle travelling at a staggering 141 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone. This reckless stunt driving not only endangered the lives of the driver and passengers but also posed a serious threat to other road users.

Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected a strong odour of cannabis, prompting them to conduct a search. What they discovered was alarming: a significant quantity of suspected illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, ketamine, and fentanyl, with a combined street value exceeding $46,700. The haul also included brass knuckles, 42 SIM cards, seven checkbooks, and cash amounting to $2,500 in Canadian currency and $1,980 in U.S. currency.

The driver, 23-year-old Anmol Bhatia from Brampton, now faces multiple serious charges. These include speeding over 50 km/h above the posted limit, performing a stunt while driving, driving with cannabis in open baggage, and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

This incident underscores the ongoing issues of impaired and reckless driving as well as the trafficking of illegal substances that plague not only Kirkland Lake but many communities across Canada. The OPP’s proactive approach to speed enforcement and drug-related offences is crucial in maintaining public safety, especially on major highways that see significant traffic.

As Canada continues to grapple with the complexities of drug use and the safety of its roads, this case serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance. The OPP’s actions reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that our highways remain safe for everyone, as they work tirelessly to enforce the law and protect communities.

In light of this incident, it’s essential for all drivers to remember the dangers of excessive speed and the implications of illegal substances. The roads are a shared space, and it is everyone’s responsibility to drive safely and adhere to the law.

The OPP encourages those with any information related to drug activity or reckless driving to come forward, as community involvement is vital in the fight against crime. As we move forward, let us all strive for safer roads and healthier communities across Ontario.
