Sarnia Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Collision in Middlesex Centre
In the early hours of November 30, 2025, a single-vehicle collision on Egremont Drive in Middlesex Centre resulted in impaired driving charges against a 64-year-old man from Sarnia. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a vehicle found in a ditch near Hedley Drive shortly after 2:49 a.m.
Upon arrival, OPP officers discovered the driver, Jeffrey Barry, and subsequently placed him under arrest. He was transported to the Middlesex OPP detachment, where further assessments were conducted. Barry is now facing charges under the Criminal Code for operating a vehicle while impaired due to a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of over 80 mg.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, highlighting the importance of responsible driving, especially during the winter months when road conditions can be treacherous. Barry has since been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in London on January 5, 2026, to speak to the charges against him.
The OPP are using this incident to remind the public about the dangers of impaired driving. With the holiday season fast approaching, it is crucial for all drivers to remain vigilant and make safe choices. If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, authorities encourage you to report it immediately.
As Canadians, we pride ourselves on our commitment to community safety. Instances like this remind us of the collective responsibility we share to keep our roads safe. The OPP’s proactive approach in addressing impaired driving cases is a crucial component in reducing the risks associated with this dangerous behaviour.
Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and use designated drivers or rideshare services if they plan to consume alcohol. By doing so, we can ensure that our roads remain safe for everyone, and prevent incidents that could result in serious injuries or fatalities.
As we approach the festive season, let us all commit to being responsible and making choices that protect not only ourselves but also our fellow Canadians.
