Wellington OPP Investigating Hit and Run Involving Pedestrian on Highway 89


WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a troubling hit and run incident that took place early on November 23, 2025. The collision, which occurred on Highway 89 and Southgate Sideroad 57, has left one pedestrian injured, and the authorities are appealing to the public for help in identifying the suspect vehicle involved.

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on that fateful morning, officers from the Wellington County OPP responded to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. According to preliminary investigations, the pedestrian was outside of their vehicle, which had been parked safely on the shoulder of the roadway, when they were struck by an eastbound vehicle on Highway 89. Shockingly, the driver failed to stop after the incident, leaving the victim injured and the community in distress.

The injured pedestrian was promptly transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor, non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, it appears that the injuries are not severe, but this incident raises significant concerns about road safety, especially for those who may find themselves in similar situations on Ontario’s busy roadways.

The Wellington County OPP are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the event or who has information about the collision to come forward. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark-coloured sports utility vehicle (SUV), possibly bearing damage to the rear passenger side.
