Penetanguishene Man Arrested After Concealing Imitation Firearm and Homemade Electrical Weapon

In a concerning incident that underscores ongoing issues surrounding weapon possession in Canadian communities, a 46-year-old resident of Penetanguishene was arrested on November 22, 2025, after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) discovered a Glock-style imitation firearm and a homemade electrical weapon concealed in his clothing.

The arrest occurred around 9:30 p.m. when OPP officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence on Gignac Drive. Upon arrival, officers witnessed two individuals involved in a physical altercation. While one suspect fled the scene, officers managed to engage with the other individual.

Police had reasonable grounds to suspect that this individual was in possession of weapons, leading to a tense interaction where the suspect resisted arrest. Fortunately, officers were able to successfully handcuff the individual and conduct a search, which revealed the concealed weapons.

The imitation firearm, resembling a real handgun, was later identified as a pellet gun. The homemade electrical weapon, which has not been detailed further, raises serious concerns regarding public safety and the means individuals may employ to inflict harm. Notably, the suspect was already bound by an Undertaking, which prohibited him from possessing any weapons.

Gerry Dean, the accused, now faces several charges under the Criminal Code, including:

  • Possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose

  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition

  • Carrying a concealed prohibited device or ammunition

  • Carrying a concealed weapon

The incident highlights the ongoing challenges that law enforcement faces in addressing weapon-related disturbances in communities across Ontario. As Canadian cities grapple with rising concerns over safety and crime, the possession of imitation firearms and homemade weapons remains a critical issue.

Local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, as community safety relies on the cooperation between citizens and law enforcement. The OPP continues to work diligently to ensure that public safety remains a priority while also addressing the underlying issues that contribute to such incidents.

As this investigation unfolds, further developments are anticipated, and residents of Penetanguishene are left to contemplate the implications of such events on their community.
