Oxford OPP Intercept Multiple Drivers for Stunt Driving on Highway 401

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Oxford County are stepping up their enforcement against stunt driving after multiple incidents over the weekend saw several drivers charged for excessive speeding on Highway 401. These incidents not only put the drivers at risk but also jeopardize the safety of other road users, sparking renewed discussions about the need for stricter measures to combat this dangerous behaviour.

The first incident occurred in the early hours of November 15, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m. A 25-year-old G2 driver from Brampton was stopped while travelling at an alarming speed of 160 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. This blatant disregard for speed limits resulted in a charge for “Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Excessive Speed.”

Just 45 minutes later, the OPP intercepted another driver in the same vicinity, also on Highway 401. This time, a 39-year-old driver from Waterloo was clocked at an even more dangerous speed of 180 km/h. In addition to the excessive speed charge, this driver faced additional charges for failing to stop for an emergency vehicle and failing to surrender an insurance card. These actions not only reflect a reckless attitude towards driving but also highlight the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining road safety.

The trend of excessive speeding continued into the following day, November 16, when police stopped a 16-year-old G2 driver from Woodstock at midnight on Sweaburg Road. This young driver was travelling at 138 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone, resulting in another charge for stunt driving. Later that same day, an 18-year-old G driver from Ingersoll was caught speeding at 111 km/h on Road 60, where the limit was 50 km/h. Both cases underscore a worrying pattern among younger drivers, who may not fully grasp the consequences of their actions.

These incidents have sparked discussions about the growing issue of stunt driving in Ontario, particularly among new and inexperienced drivers. The OPP has made it clear that they are committed to curbing this behaviour through increased patrols and enforcement measures. “Stunt driving is not only illegal; it is incredibly dangerous. We urge all drivers to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly for the safety of everyone on the road,” an OPP spokesperson stated.

As Canadians, we take pride in our road safety. The statistics are alarming, and the time for action is now. The OPP’s recent enforcement efforts serve as a reminder that excessive speeding and stunt driving will not be tolerated. It is essential for all drivers, especially young and inexperienced ones, to respect traffic laws and prioritize safety.

With the holiday season approaching, it is crucial for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel. Let’s work together to ensure that our roads remain safe for everyone.
