Kenora Police Arrest Two in Connection with Murder of Missing Grassy Narrows Man

In a heartbreaking update from Kenora, Ontario, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals in connection with the investigation into the murder of a young man who was reported missing last month.

Mekhi Pelly, a 21-year-old resident of Grassy Narrows First Nation, was reported missing to the OPP’s Kenora Detachment on October 26, 2025. Sadly, he has since been confirmed deceased, prompting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

As the investigation unfolded, police arrested 24-year-old Terrance Cherry of Kenora, who now faces a charge of first-degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code. Cherry has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora on December 4, 2025.

In addition to Cherry, 43-year-old Una Cherry, also of Kenora, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder. She, too, is remanded in custody and will appear in court on the same date.

The OPP Crime Unit, assisted by the Criminal Investigation Branch, is leading the inquiry, which has also engaged the OPP’s Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. Local Indigenous communities, including Grassy Narrows First Nation and Washagamis Bay First Nation, are collaborating with law enforcement in the ongoing search for Pelly’s remains.

This case highlights not only the tragic loss of a young life but also the ongoing challenges faced by Indigenous communities in Ontario. The heartbreaking reality of missing and murdered Indigenous people is a pressing issue that requires continued attention and action from all levels of government and society.

As the investigation continues, the OPP is urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. It’s a call to the community to work together to support the grieving families and ensure that justice is served.

With the court dates set for December, the community of Kenora and surrounding areas are left to grapple with this tragedy, hoping for closure and justice for Mekhi Pelly and his loved ones.
