Orillia Man Arrested After Disturbance at Local Bank

In a troubling incident that highlights the importance of safety in public spaces, a 36-year-old man from Eldon Township, identified as Brandon Costa, was arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Orillia following a significant disturbance at a local bank.

The event unfolded on November 1, 2025, around 11:50 a.m. when police received reports of a man causing a scene at a financial institution located on Monarch Drive. Witnesses described a chaotic situation as Costa became increasingly agitated while waiting to make a withdrawal. His agitation escalated into verbal abuse directed at bank employees, with several threats made towards the staff and the establishment itself.

When OPP officers arrived on the scene, they quickly assessed the situation and, after speaking with witnesses and the involved parties, determined that they had sufficient grounds to arrest Costa for causing a disturbance. During the investigation, it was revealed that Costa was also in violation of a probation order stemming from a previous incident involving the OPP, which added a layer of seriousness to the charges he now faces.

As a result of his actions that day, Costa has been charged with two offenses:

  1. Causing a Disturbance

  2. Failing to Comply with a Probation Order

This incident raises pertinent questions about public safety in community spaces, especially as we approach the busy holiday season. The OPP has emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe environment for all Canadians, particularly in places where families and individuals conduct their everyday business.

Costa has been held for a bail hearing as the legal process begins. Such disturbances not only disrupt the daily operations of local businesses but can also create an environment of fear among employees and customers. It serves as a reminder of the role that law enforcement plays in ensuring public safety and the importance of community vigilance.

While police investigations continue, it is crucial for community members to report any similar incidents, ensuring that everyone can feel secure while conducting their affairs in local establishments. The OPP encourages anyone with information related to this event to come forward to assist in maintaining the safety of our communities.

As this case unfolds, residents of Orillia are reminded to remain aware of their surroundings and to support local law enforcement in their efforts to keep the community safe.
