Kirkland Lake Driver Charged with Multiple Impaired Driving Offences After Stunt Driving Incident

In a concerning reminder of road safety, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a 23-year-old man from Kirkland Lake with multiple impaired driving offences following a reckless stunt driving incident that took place on September 26, 2025.

The incident unfolded late that Friday evening when OPP officers received reports of a vehicle performing burnouts on Goodfish Road, creating a hazardous situation for other road users. The reckless behaviour included the driver allegedly losing control of the vehicle, leading to an immediate response from the OPP.

Upon locating the driver, identified as Jesse Mayhew, officers determined that he had been consuming alcohol. This prompted the arrest and subsequent transportation to the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment for further testing, where the severity of the driver’s impairment became clear.

Mayhew now faces a total of five charges, which include:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg

  • Driving while under suspension

  • Insecure load

  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt

In a decisive move to address this dangerous behaviour, authorities have issued Mayhew a 90-day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) along with a seven-day vehicle impoundment. He is set to appear in the Kirkland Lake Ontario Court of Justice on January 22, 2026.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in keeping our roads safe. Impaired driving remains a significant issue across Canada, with countless lives at stake every day. The OPP encourages all drivers to make responsible choices, ensuring they do not get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol or drugs.

As we approach the holiday season—a time often associated with celebrations—it’s crucial for Canadians to prioritize safety on the roads. Communities are urged to report any dangerous driving behaviours to local authorities, fostering a collective effort to reduce impaired driving incidents and promote a safer driving environment for all.

In Kirkland Lake, the OPP’s proactive measures aim to deter such reckless actions and remind residents that the law will take firm action against those who endanger others on the road. The consequences of impaired driving extend beyond the legal ramifications; they can lead to devastating accidents that impact families and communities across the province.

As we reflect on this incident, let it serve as a call to action for all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible. After all, safe roads are a shared responsibility.
