The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Brant County are urging residents to remain vigilant following a recent theft from a vehicle that resulted in fraudulent activity. The incident occurred overnight between November 7 and 8, 2025, when a local resident discovered that both his and his wife’s vehicles had been rummaged through. Thankfully, no damage was reported to either vehicle, but the theft of personal belongings has raised concerns about safety in the community.

The complainant reported that his brown leather wallet was missing from his vehicle. Inside the wallet were several personal items, including a driver’s licence, health card, gift cards, receipts, a CIBC debit card, and a cherished photo of his daughter. The emotional toll of losing such personal items, particularly the photo, cannot be understated and serves as a reminder of the importance of securing our belongings, especially in our own driveways.

In a troubling turn of events, since the wallet’s theft, three unauthorized transactions of approximately $90 each have been made using the stolen debit card at a Circle K convenience store located on Erie Avenue in Brantford. This type of incident is becoming increasingly common, as thieves target vehicles parked in driveways or on streets, often within residential neighbourhoods.

The OPP believe the theft occurred between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., a timeframe that suggests the suspect was likely hoping to avoid detection. Unfortunately, there is currently no surveillance footage of the theft itself; however, the OPP have shared images of three suspects captured on the Circle K’s security cameras on social media, hoping that members of the public can assist in identifying them.

Brant County residents are reminded to take precautions to prevent similar incidents. Simple steps such as locking vehicle doors, removing valuable items, and parking in well-lit areas can help deter thieves.
