Norfolk County Driver Charged After Collision on Highway 59 in East-Zorra Tavistock

In a concerning incident on November 7, 2025, a collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a commercial van on Highway 59 in East-Zorra Tavistock has led to multiple charges against a 31-year-old driver from Norfolk County.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Oxford County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene, along with paramedic and fire services. Initial reports indicated that the lone occupant of the commercial van fortunately emerged unscathed, while the driver of the SUV was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Following an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, the OPP charged Austin Knott with several offences, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of a Schedule I substance—specifically cocaine—and driving while under suspension.

The charges highlight ongoing concerns regarding road safety and drug use among drivers, a dual issue that the authorities continue to address. Dangerous driving not only puts the driver at risk but also endangers other road users, making it imperative for law enforcement to take decisive action in such cases.

Knott has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on December 16, 2026. The OPP have made it clear that their investigation is ongoing and are appealing to the public for assistance. They are requesting that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage reach out to them.

This incident serves as a reminder for all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel. As Canadians, we take pride in our safe roads, and it is essential that we all do our part to ensure they remain that way.

As the OPP continues to crack down on impaired and dangerous driving, it is vital for the community to stay informed and report any suspicious behaviour. Together, we can foster a safer environment for everyone on the roads.
