Cochrane Resident Charged with Impaired Driving After Vehicle Ends Up in Ditch

Cochrane, ON - In the early hours of Sunday morning, November 9, 2025, a 27-year-old man from Cochrane was charged with impaired driving after his vehicle ended up in a ditch on Highway 11 West. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the ongoing efforts of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to maintain road safety in the region.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., OPP officers on patrol noticed the vehicle that had veered off the road and into the westbound ditch. Following the initial observation, an automated collision notification was dispatched. Upon arriving at the scene, officers spoke with the driver, Munjal Parmar, and quickly determined that he had consumed alcohol.

The OPP’s commitment to addressing impaired driving is evident in their prompt response. Munjal Parmar was arrested on-site and taken to the Cochrane OPP detachment for further testing. As a result of the investigation, Parmar is facing multiple charges, including operation while impaired due to alcohol, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

In addition to the charges, Parmar was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on December 9, 2025. He also received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), while his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The OPP continues to prioritize road safety, especially as the holiday season approaches, a time when impaired driving incidents tend to spike. Officers are urging all drivers to make responsible choices when it comes to alcohol consumption and driving.

In Canada, impaired driving remains a serious concern, and the consequences are severe not only for those arrested but for the broader community. Each year, countless lives are impacted by impaired driving, making it crucial for individuals to understand the risks and the legal ramifications of such actions.

As the OPP emphasizes the importance of road safety, they encourage all Ontarians to look out for one another and report any suspected impaired driving behavior. With continued vigilance and community cooperation, we can all contribute to safer roads across Canada.
