Brampton Driver Charged with Stunt Driving After Speeding in Wellington North
In a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, a 31-year-old driver from Brampton has been charged with stunt driving after a traffic stop in Wellington North. The incident took place on November 8, 2025, when members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Traffic Management Unit were conducting a proactive traffic enforcement initiative.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the OPP officer observed a commercial motor vehicle travelling at an alarming speed on Wellington Road 109. The vehicle was clocked at 135 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone, prompting an immediate traffic stop. Such reckless behaviour not only endangers the driver but also poses significant risks to other road users.
In addition to the stunt driving charge, which typically results in a 14-day vehicle impoundment and a 30-day driver’s licence suspension, the driver was also charged with speeding and failing to complete a Daily Inspection Report accurately. These infractions highlight the critical need for commercial drivers to adhere to safety protocols, particularly when operating large vehicles on busy roads.
The company associated with the vehicle did not escape scrutiny either. The business faces charges under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to ensure performance standards are met and for not conducting daily inspections properly. This raises concerns about the operational practices of commercial transport businesses in Ontario, which must prioritize safety to protect both their drivers and the public.
Both the driver and the company are scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph at a later date. The OPP reminds all drivers that safety should always be a top priority, especially on Ontario’s roads, which can be particularly challenging in winter months.
This incident serves as a wake-up call for all drivers—commercial or otherwise—to remain vigilant and responsible behind the wheel. The OPP’s proactive measures in traffic enforcement aim not only to penalize offenders but also to foster a culture of safety on our roadways. As the holiday season approaches, it is crucial that all drivers take extra care to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
With the rising number of commercial vehicles on the roads, it is essential for both drivers and companies to uphold high safety standards. The OPP continues to work diligently to keep our roads safe for everyone.
