Impaired Driving and Speeding Charges for North Bay Resident in Callander

In a concerning incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving in Ontario, an 18-year-old man from North Bay faces serious charges after a speeding stop in Callander. This event, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, serves as a reminder for all drivers about the importance of road safety and responsible alcohol consumption.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers observed a vehicle travelling at 96 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Highway 654, prompting them to initiate a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers detected signs that the driver, identified as Cole Bolger, may have been under the influence of alcohol. Their suspicions were confirmed when Bolger was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Bolger has been charged with several offences, including operation while impaired by alcohol, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg, speeding (36 km/h over the posted limit), and driving a motor vehicle without plates. This incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving, which continues to be a significant issue on our roads.

Bolger has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 18, 2025. In addition to the legal consequences he faces, Bolger has also received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), and his vehicle has been impounded for a period of seven days.

The OPP has been actively working to raise awareness about impaired driving through various initiatives and increased patrols, particularly during times when celebrations and gatherings are common. As Canadians, we must all do our part to keep our roads safe—this includes understanding the risks associated with drinking and driving and making responsible choices.

As we reflect on this incident, it is crucial for everyone, especially young drivers, to recognize the importance of adhering to speed limits and staying sober behind the wheel. The consequences of impaired driving are severe, not only for the driver but also for passengers, other road users, and the community at large.

The OPP continues to encourage the public to report any instances of suspected impaired driving to help keep our roads safe. With the holiday season approaching, it is vital to prioritize safety and responsibility during celebrations where alcohol may be involved.
