Wawa Man Arrested Following OPP Traffic Stop, Faces Multiple Drug Charges

In a significant enforcement action, the Superior East Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a man in Wawa, Ontario, on October 27, 2025, following a traffic stop that revealed a cache of illegal drugs and cash. This incident underscores the OPP’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug-related crime in small communities across the province.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., officers from the OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), supported by the Emergency Response Team (ERT), conducted the stop on Mission Road, suspecting the driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle. The stop quickly escalated into a serious investigation as officers uncovered evidence of drug trafficking.

During the search of the vehicle, police seized more than 40 grams of suspected cocaine, which has an estimated street value of approximately $5,000. In addition, they recovered over $2,500 in Canadian currency, two digital scales, and a set of 3D-printed brass knuckles. These items suggest not only illicit drug activity but also a potential intent to use or distribute dangerous weapons.

The driver, identified as 48-year-old Michael Miller from Wawa, has been charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Operating a vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code (two counts)

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

  • Failure to comply with a release order (other than to attend court)

Miller appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Wawa on October 28, 2025, where he was remanded into custody pending further legal proceedings.

This incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in communities across Ontario, particularly in smaller towns like Wawa, where such activities can have a significant impact on local safety and quality of life. The OPP’s proactive approach in addressing these issues is vital in maintaining public safety.

As drug-related crimes continue to pose challenges for law enforcement, the OPP encourages community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Public cooperation is essential in the fight against drugs and crime, ensuring that small-town Ontario remains a safe place for all its residents.

This arrest forms part of a broader strategy by the OPP to clamp down on drug trafficking, especially in areas that may be overlooked in favour of larger urban centres. With ongoing efforts and community support, the police aim to create a safer environment for everyone in Ontario.
