Wawa Man, 82, Charged with Impaired Driving After OPP Traffic Stop

In a concerning incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving in Canada, an 82-year-old man from Wawa, Ontario, was charged following a traffic stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). On October 20, 2025, at approximately 5:50 PM, officers from the Superior East detachment noticed a vehicle travelling at a low speed on Churchill Avenue and decided to pull it over.

The officers administered a breath test using an Approved Screening Device (ASD), which resulted in a “FAIL” indication. This prompted the arrest of the driver, identified as Jeffrey Floria, who was subsequently taken to the Wawa OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the failed breath test, Floria now faces serious charges, including operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 mL of blood. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Wawa on December 8, 2025.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, particularly as the holiday season approaches. The OPP continues to emphasize that no amount of alcohol or drugs is safe when it comes to driving.

With the festive season often seeing an increase in social gatherings and celebrations, Canadians are urged to plan ahead for safe transportation options. Whether it’s arranging for a designated driver or utilizing public transit, ensuring that our roads remain safe is a shared responsibility.

The OPP encourages community members to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers, whether on the roads or waterways. As Canadians, we are all stakeholders in the safety of our communities, and it is imperative that we look out for one another.

The case of Jeffrey Floria stands as a reminder that impaired driving is a serious offence that can have devastating consequences. As we reflect on this incident, let us all commit to making responsible choices and fostering a culture of safety on our roads.
