Manitouwadge Woman Charged with Impaired Driving After RIDE Check

In a recent incident that underscores the ongoing battle against impaired driving, a 74-year-old woman from Manitouwadge has been charged after failing a breath test during a Reduce Impaired Drivers Everywhere (RIDE) check conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The check took place on the afternoon of October 30, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m. As part of a routine effort to keep Ontario’s roads safe, officers from the Manitouwadge Detachment of the OPP set up the RIDE program to screen drivers for signs of impairment. It was during this check that one motorist raised suspicion among the officers, prompting them to investigate further.

Upon conducting a breath test, the driver registered a fail, a clear indication of impaired driving. Consequently, the woman was arrested, and her vehicle was towed and impounded as per standard procedure. She now faces a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired, specifically for having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

This incident serves as a reminder to all Ontarians about the dangers of impaired driving. The OPP has been vocal about the importance of driving sober, reinforcing that no amount of alcohol or drugs is acceptable when behind the wheel. As the holiday season approaches, the message becomes even more critical, with increased celebrations leading to potential risks on the roads.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Manitouwadge on November 5, 2025. The OPP encourages anyone who suspects they are witnessing impaired driving to report it immediately by calling 911 or contacting the police.

Impaired driving remains a significant concern across Canada, with various programs in place aimed at reducing instances of drunk driving and enhancing public safety. The OPP’s RIDE program is one such initiative that has proven effective in identifying impaired drivers and keeping our roads safer for everyone.

As Canadians, it is essential that we all take responsibility for our actions on the road. If you plan on consuming alcohol, always arrange for a safe ride home. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe and ensure that everyone can enjoy the roadways responsibly.
