Midland Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Failing to Stop at Intersection

In Midland, Ontario, a 57-year-old man is facing serious legal repercussions after being charged with impaired driving, following a traffic stop that has raised alarms about road safety in the community. Terry Charlebois was arrested on October 29, 2025, after he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Montreal and Eighth Streets, a location that is part of a designated Community Safety Zone.

The incident occurred around noon when an officer from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was monitoring traffic. The officer observed Charlebois drive through the stop sign without slowing down or stopping. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected signs of alcohol impairment, which led to a roadside breath test. Unfortunately for Charlebois, the test resulted in a “Fail,” prompting his immediate arrest.

Not only has Charlebois been charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with impaired operation and having over 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, but he also faces a charge for disobeying the stop sign. Following the arrest, his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for a week.

Charlebois has been released from custody but is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 13, 2025, where he will face these charges. This incident marks the second impaired driving charge laid in the Midland area within just three days, a concerning trend that the OPP hopes to address through public awareness and enforcement efforts.

The OPP is urging all motorists to plan ahead and make responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving. They remind the public that options such as designated drivers, taxis, and ridesharing services are critical in keeping our roads safe.

As Canadians, we pride ourselves on our community values, and ensuring the safety of our roads is a shared responsibility. Impaired driving not only endangers the life of the driver but also the lives of innocent motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists. The OPP’s proactive approach in arresting impaired drivers is essential in reinforcing the message that impaired driving will not be tolerated in our communities.

With the holiday season approaching, and festivities often including alcohol, it is crucial for everyone to remain vigilant and prioritize safety on the roads. The OPP’s commitment to addressing impaired driving is a significant step towards safeguarding our communities and ensuring that all Canadians can enjoy a safe driving experience.
