Impaired Driver Charged After Collision on Highway 416 in North Grenville

A late-night collision on Monday, October 27, 2025, has led to impaired driving charges for a pick-up truck driver in North Grenville, Ontario. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the incident shortly after 9:00 PM, which occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 416, just south of the Rideau River.

According to the OPP, the pick-up truck collided with a construction site “crash truck” that was parked on the side of the highway. The impact was significant enough to prompt a response from local firefighters and paramedics from Leeds-Grenville. Fortunately, injuries were minimal; the driver of the pick-up was taken to hospital as a precaution, while the operator of the crash truck was assessed but reported no serious harm.

As a result of their investigation, officers charged the driver, identified as Cole R., with impaired driving. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, particularly in busy areas like Highway 416, which serves as a major route for both local and long-distance traffic.

Impaired driving remains a pressing issue across Canada, with statistics showing that it is a leading cause of road accidents. The OPP and other law enforcement agencies are continually working to promote safer driving practices and to enforce strict penalties for those who choose to drive under the influence.

Highway 416 is not only a critical transportation link in Ontario but also a stretch of road that has seen its share of accidents over the years. Authorities urge drivers to remain vigilant, especially as the nights grow longer and the weather becomes less predictable during the fall and winter months.

As drivers prepare for the upcoming winter season, it is crucial to prioritize safe and sober driving habits. The OPP encourages all motorists to plan ahead, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

With the holiday season approaching, concerns about impaired driving are likely to intensify. Communities across Ontario will be watching closely as law enforcement ramps up efforts to keep roads safe for everyone.
