Burlington Driver Arrested for Firearms Offences While Serving Licence Suspension

In a significant enforcement action over the weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a driver in Burlington, Ontario, who was found to be operating a vehicle while serving a one-year driver’s licence suspension. This suspension stemmed from a prior conviction for impaired driving, underscoring ongoing concerns about road safety and responsible driving in the province.

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, at approximately 10:31 a.m., an OPP officer from the Burlington Detachment was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 6 near Leeming Road in Hamilton. Thanks to the implementation of Automatic Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology, the officer was alerted to a vehicle driven by an individual who was prohibited from driving.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the officer identified the sole occupant and registered owner, who was subsequently arrested for driving while prohibited. This incident highlights the importance of the OPP’s commitment to keeping roads safe and removing dangerous drivers from the highways.

In addition to the driving offence, the officer suspected that the driver had recently consumed alcohol. A breath demand was issued, and the driver registered an ‘Alert’ on a roadside Approved Screening Device (ASD). As a result, he faced an additional three-day driver’s licence suspension.

However, the situation escalated when officers discovered a prohibited firearm being transported in the vehicle, which was not stored securely. This discovery raises serious concerns about the safety implications of individuals driving with firearms, particularly those already engaged in illegal driving behaviour.

This incident serves as a timely reminder for drivers across Ontario to adhere to the rules of the road, especially those who have previously faced legal consequences for impaired driving. The OPP is actively working to ensure that such individuals do not endanger other road users by ignoring their driving prohibitions.

As Canadians, we must prioritize road safety and responsible driving behaviour, especially in light of the serious implications of impaired driving and illegal firearm possession. The OPP’s vigilance in enforcing these laws is a crucial step in protecting our communities.

Residents of Burlington and surrounding areas are urged to report any suspicious driving behaviour to local authorities and to remain vigilant in ensuring that our roads are safe for all users. With ongoing efforts from law enforcement, we can work together to reduce instances of impaired and dangerous driving on our highways.
