Sudbury Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Police Response in Markstay-Warren

On the night of October 24, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Nipissing West Detachment responded to a call regarding an unwanted person at a residence in Markstay-Warren, a small community located just a short drive from Sudbury. The situation quickly escalated when officers arrived at the scene, discovering a running vehicle parked in the driveway.

Inside the vehicle was 35-year-old Spencer Turvey from Sudbury. Upon further investigation, police suspected Turvey was operating the vehicle while impaired. As a result, he was arrested and taken to the OPP detachment for testing.

The investigation confirmed the suspicions, leading to charges of operation while impaired due to alcohol consumption and operation while impaired due to a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. Following the incident, Turvey was released but is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on November 19, 2025.

In addition to the charges, Turvey received a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for a period of seven days. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the serious consequences of impaired driving.

The OPP urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers. They emphasize that if you see someone who may be driving under the influence, it is crucial to “Make the Call” and dial 9-1-1. Impaired driving poses a significant risk not only to the driver but also to other road users, making it essential for everyone to plan ahead and ensure safe transportation options.

As Canadians, we have a collective responsibility to keep our roads safe. Whether at home or in our communities, the message is clear: don’t drink and drive, and if you suspect someone else is, take action to prevent a potential tragedy.
