Nottawasaga Police Arrest Impaired Driver Following Traffic Complaint
In a concerning incident that underscores the importance of road safety, a 48-year-old man from New Tecumseth has been charged with impaired driving in Essa Township, Ontario. The arrest was made following a traffic complaint that highlighted reckless driving behaviour, serving as a reminder of the crucial role that vigilant citizens play in maintaining road safety across the province.
On October 26, 2025, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers from the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a vehicle swerving dangerously on Highway 89 near County Road 10. Witnesses described the driver as running red traffic lights, a behaviour that raised immediate concern for public safety.
Upon locating the vehicle, officers approached the driver, identified as Francisco TARDIO-ALARCON. Observations made by the police during their interaction raised suspicions of impairment due to alcohol. As a result, TARDIO-ALARCON was arrested and subsequently charged with two serious offences: operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit of 80 mg per 100 ml of blood.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving. The OPP is steadfast in its commitment to keeping Ontario roads safe, particularly as we approach the holiday season when driving conditions can become more challenging.
The accused is set to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on November 27, 2025, to address the charges against him.
The OPP encourages anyone who suspects that a driver is operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drugs to contact emergency services immediately. Timely reporting can be crucial in preventing potential accidents and saving lives.
