Midland Driver Charged with Impaired Driving After Collision at Local Roundabout
In a troubling incident highlighting the ongoing issue of impaired driving, a Midland resident has been charged after a collision at a local roundabout. On October 27, 2025, around 2:30 PM, the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a minor fender-bender at the traffic circle on Simcoe Road 93.
While investigating the incident, officers spoke with the driver, 47-year-old Vanessa Linde. During their interaction, they noted signs of alcohol impairment, prompting them to conduct a roadside breath test. The results of the test indicated a “Fail,” leading to her immediate arrest.
The charges against Linde are serious and include:
-
Impaired Operation under the Criminal Code
-
Operation Over 80 Milligrams
-
G2 Driver - Blood Alcohol Above Zero
Following her arrest, Linde was taken to the OPP detachment for further testing. She has since been released from custody but is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 13, 2025. As part of the legal consequences of her actions, her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and her vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving, especially as we approach the holiday season, when alcohol consumption tends to rise. The OPP emphasizes the importance of making responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving.
Ontario has seen numerous campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the risks associated with impaired driving, and incidents like this underline the ongoing need for vigilance. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and utilize designated drivers or rideshare services to ensure safety on the roads.
In Midland, local residents are urged to remain attentive to the actions of their fellow drivers and to report any suspected impaired driving to authorities. The OPP continues to promote a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving, aiming to keep our roads safe for everyone.
As we look forward to the upcoming months, let us all commit to making responsible decisions that contribute to safer communities.
