Petawawa Driver Arrested After High-Speed Fleeing from Police
In a startling incident on October 11, 2025, a 42-year-old man from Petawawa is now facing serious charges after he fled a traffic stop initiated by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The events unfolded just after 10:00 p.m. when officers responded to reports of a possible impaired driver on Petawawa Boulevard.
Upon locating the suspect’s vehicle parked at a local business, officers approached the driver. However, in a reckless turn of events, the individual started the vehicle and sped away at a high rate of speed, narrowly avoiding a collision. In the interest of public safety, the OPP made the decision not to pursue the vehicle, opting instead to launch an immediate investigation to identify the driver.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of the suspect, Lee Clouthier, who now faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle under the Criminal Code, as well as two counts of driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by impaired driving and the responsibilities that come with holding a driver’s licence.
Clouthier has been released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on November 10, 2025. In the wake of this incident, the OPP is reminding the public about the risks of impaired driving and the importance of obeying traffic laws.
Public safety remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies across Canada, and the OPP continues to encourage citizens to report any suspicious or dangerous driving behaviours. As we approach the winter months, it’s particularly crucial for drivers to remain vigilant and responsible on the roads.
With holiday celebrations and gatherings often leading to increased alcohol consumption, the OPP is urging everyone to plan ahead and make safe transportation choices. Whether that means designating a sober driver, using public transit, or calling for a ride service, it’s vital that we all do our part to keep our roads safe.
The community of Petawawa is now left to reflect on this incident and its implications, as local law enforcement remains steadfast in their commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring the safety of all residents.
