North Bay Driver Arrested Following Wild Police Chase, Faces 17 Criminal Charges

A North Bay driver is making headlines after being arrested and charged with an astonishing 17 criminal offences following a dangerous police pursuit. The incident, which unfolded on October 23, 2025, highlights not only the risks of reckless driving but also the ongoing issues surrounding drug trafficking in Ontario.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on that Wednesday, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Highway 17, just west of North Bay, as part of an ongoing investigation. The driver, identified as Caleb Laronde, 38, refused to stop, leading to a chaotic chain of events that saw him collide with a stationary OPP cruiser.

From there, Laronde’s driving took a dangerous turn. Reports indicate that he navigated through a hospital parking lot recklessly, endangering lives, before continuing his erratic driving onto Highway 11 north of North Bay. The OPP were relentless in their efforts, eventually locating Laronde on Tomiko Lake Road in Merrick Township, where he had sustained damage to his vehicle after veering off the road.

As police approached the damaged vehicle, Laronde attempted to flee once again but was quickly apprehended. A subsequent search of the car and its driver revealed a concerning array of items, including suspected clonazepam pills, crystal methamphetamine, brass knuckles, bear spray, significant amounts of Canadian currency, a scale, and packaging materials typically associated with drug trafficking.

The multitude of charges against Laronde includes several serious offences, such as drug possession, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and various driving-related charges. This case is a stark reminder of the challenges that law enforcement faces in combating drug-related crimes and ensuring public safety on our roads.

North Bay, while known for its beautiful scenery and vibrant community, is not immune to the troubling rise in drug-related incidents. This situation reinforces the importance of community vigilance and support for local law enforcement efforts. The OPP continues to take decisive action against dangerous drivers and those involved in the drug trade, working diligently to keep our streets safe.

As the case unfolds, it will be essential to monitor how the legal proceedings progress and what implications this incident may have for both the local community and broader discussions around public safety and drug enforcement policies in Ontario.

For residents of North Bay, this incident serves as a wake-up call about the risks posed by reckless behaviour on the roads and the ongoing battle against drugs in our communities. It is a reminder that while the scenic beauty of Northern Ontario is undeniable, the safety and well-being of its residents must always come first.
