Caledon OPP Arrests Three Impaired Drivers in Recent Operations

In a concerted effort to enhance road safety and reduce impaired driving incidents, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment has recently charged three individuals with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. This action follows a series of alcohol-related investigations conducted between October 18 and October 22, 2025.

On the evening of October 21, at approximately 9:30 p.m., OPP officers responded to a report of a vehicle displaying erratic driving behaviour. Officers quickly located the vehicle on Heart Lake Road, near Mayfield Road in Caledon. Upon conducting a traffic stop, officers determined that the driver, Deonarine Persaud, a 72-year-old resident of Shelburne, exhibited signs of impairment due to alcohol. Consequently, he was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 mg.

Just hours later, on October 22, at around 12:30 a.m., officers were alerted to a two-vehicle collision on the Highway 410 off-ramp near Valleywood Boulevard. Upon arrival, further investigations revealed that one of the drivers involved was also impaired. Details regarding this individual have not been disclosed yet, but they were charged accordingly.

The OPP’s proactive approach in Caledon is a crucial component of their broader strategy to combat impaired driving, especially as the holiday season approaches. With more drivers on the road and festivities in full swing, the risk of alcohol-related accidents escalates.

Ontario has seen various campaigns aimed at increasing awareness about the dangers of impaired driving, with law enforcement agencies playing a pivotal role in enforcement. In recent years, the OPP has intensified their efforts to remove impaired drivers from the roads, employing various tactics such as RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs, which involve random checks at various locations.

Impaired driving remains a significant concern across Canada, with law enforcement agencies urging the public to prioritize safety and make responsible choices. Whether it’s designating a sober driver, using public transit, or calling a ride-sharing service, there are numerous alternatives to ensure that everyone arrives home safely.

As citizens of Ontario, it is our collective responsibility to foster a safe driving environment. With ongoing efforts by the OPP and local law enforcement, we can work together to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents and protect our communities.

In light of these recent arrests, the OPP urges all motorists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious driving behaviour. Together, we can contribute to safer roads across Ontario, ensuring that everyone can enjoy their travels without fear of impaired drivers.

For the residents of Caledon and surrounding areas, it’s a timely reminder that public safety is a shared responsibility, and the community’s vigilance is key to preventing impaired driving tragedies.
