Caledon OPP Arrests Three Impaired Drivers Over Recent Weekend

In a timely reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have taken three individuals off the road following a string of alcohol-related investigations that took place between October 18 and October 22, 2025.

The crackdown began on October 21 when OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint about a vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behaviour. Shortly after receiving the report, officers located the vehicle on Heart Lake Road, near Mayfield Road, in the Town of Caledon. Upon conducting a traffic stop, officers determined that the driver, 72-year-old Deonarine Persaud from Shelburne, was impaired by alcohol. He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while impaired and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of over 80 mg.

Just hours later, on October 22, at approximately 12:30 a.m., OPP officers were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the Highway 410 off-ramp, near Valleywood Boulevard. The details surrounding this incident are still under investigation, but it serves as a critical reminder of the ongoing risk posed by impaired drivers on Ontario’s roads.

The OPP’s commitment to combating impaired driving is crucial, especially as we approach the holiday season—a time often associated with festivities that can lead to increased alcohol consumption and, unfortunately, impaired driving incidents. With the potential for more gatherings and celebrations, it is essential for all drivers to remain vigilant and responsible.

As Canadians, we take pride in our safety on the roads, and initiatives like the OPP’s enforcement actions play a vital role in protecting our communities. The message is clear: if you choose to drink, plan ahead and find a safe way home. The consequences of impaired driving can be severe, not just for the driver but for everyone on the road.

The Caledon OPP encourages residents to report any suspected impaired driving to ensure that our roads remain safe for all. With continued vigilance and community cooperation, we can work together to eliminate the threat of impaired driving in our neighborhoods.

In conclusion, the recent arrests highlight the critical importance of responsible driving and the role law enforcement plays in maintaining public safety. Let us all commit to making safe choices and supporting our local police in their efforts to keep our roads safe during the busy holiday season and beyond.
