Desbarats Woman Charged with Impaired Driving After Pickup Truck Found in Ditch

On the evening of October 17, 2025, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a concerning report of a black pickup truck in a ditch along Puddingstone Road in Desbarats. The swift action of the OPP highlights the importance of vigilance on our roads, especially as we head into the darker months of the year when visibility and road conditions can become challenging.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the truck in the eastbound ditch and initiated a conversation with the driver, identified as Amy Walker, a 39-year-old resident of Desbarats. It quickly became apparent that Walker had consumed alcohol prior to driving. In keeping with their commitment to road safety, the officers arrested her and transported her to the Thessalon OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Walker has been charged with two serious offences: operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol and exceeding the legal blood alcohol concentration limit of 0.08. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with impaired driving, not only for the driver but for all road users.

In accordance with Ontario’s laws regarding impaired driving, Walker has been issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS), along with a seven-day vehicle impoundment. She is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on January 8, 2026, to answer to the charges.

The OPP emphasizes that impaired driving remains a significant concern across Ontario, with tragic consequences that can ripple through communities. Public education and enforcement are key components of the OPP’s strategy to combat this issue, and they urge all Ontarians to report any suspected impaired driving to keep our roads safe.

As Canadians, we take pride in our beautiful landscapes and vibrant communities, and ensuring the safety of our roads is paramount. The OPP’s ongoing commitment to removing impaired drivers from our highways aligns with our collective responsibility to protect one another, making sure that every journey can be made safely.

If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, it is crucial to take action. Reporting these instances not only helps protect the individual but also the lives of countless others who share our roads. Let’s work together to keep our communities safe and make informed choices behind the wheel.
