London Man Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Incident in Norfolk County
In a recent incident that underscores ongoing concerns about impaired driving and vehicle theft in Ontario, a 50-year-old man from London has found himself facing serious charges following the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Norfolk County. The event unfolded in the early hours of October 15, 2025, when members of the Oxford Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in Tillsonburg.
As the OPP officers arrived on the scene, they received further information regarding a vehicle matching the stolen car’s description that was being driven erratically. This raised immediate concerns for public safety, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The vehicle was later spotted in Brant County, near the intersection of Maple Grove and Highway 24. In an effort to stop the vehicle, officers from the Brant OPP detachment attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver refused to comply and fled the scene, leading to a brief pursuit that ultimately ended in Norfolk County.
Thanks to the advanced telematics system installed in the stolen vehicle, Norfolk OPP officers were able to locate and safely stop the vehicle on McDowell Road in Simcoe. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
Robert Gratton, the London resident charged in this case, now faces multiple offenses including:
-
Operation while Impaired - Drugs
-
Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code
-
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
-
Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand
-
Flight from Peace Officer
The charges reflect a troubling trend of impaired driving incidents in Ontario, where law enforcement agencies continue to combat the dangers posed by drug-impaired drivers. The quick work of the OPP in this case not only highlights the effectiveness of modern police technology but also serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving.
As communities across Canada grapple with issues related to vehicle theft and impaired driving, this incident serves as a stark warning. The OPP urges all Ontarians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help keep our roads safe.
With Gratton’s arrest, the OPP hopes to deter future instances of impaired driving and vehicle theft, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and community engagement. As we look forward, cooperation between law enforcement and the community remains crucial in tackling these pressing issues.
