Bluewater Man Arrested for Prohibited ATV Operation and Multiple Offences
In a significant enforcement action, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has apprehended a Bluewater resident for operating an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) while prohibited from driving. This incident, which unfolded on October 6, 2025, serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to driving regulations, especially in rural Ontario where recreational vehicles are a popular mode of transport.
The OPP officers initiated a traffic stop just past noon in the Village of Hensall, located within the Municipality of Bluewater. Upon stopping the ATV, officers uncovered that the 24-year-old driver, Ryley Ingham, was not only operating the vehicle without a valid license but was also under a prohibition order related to the Criminal Code.
Ingham was promptly arrested and taken into custody. The gravity of this situation is underscored by the range of charges he now faces. In addition to the primary charge of Operation while Prohibited, Ingham has been charged with three offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and three under the Off-Road Vehicles Act (ORVA). He also faces charges under the Trespass to Property Act (TPA) and the Railway Safety Act (RSA).
The ATV involved in this incident has been impounded for a period of 45 days, reflecting the OPP’s commitment to enhancing safety on Ontario’s roads and trails. Ingham has since been processed and released from custody, with a court appearance scheduled for December 1, 2025.
This event not only highlights the risks associated with prohibited driving but also serves as a reminder to the community about the importance of following the law when it comes to operating vehicles of any kind. The OPP continues to encourage all residents to prioritize safety and compliance, ensuring that Ontario’s roads and recreational areas remain safe for everyone.
As the popularity of ATVs and other off-road vehicles continues to grow in rural areas, incidents like this emphasize the need for responsible operation and adherence to regulations. It is crucial for drivers to recognize the serious implications of driving without a valid license or while prohibited, not only for their own safety but for the safety of all road users.
The OPP remains vigilant in its efforts to ensure that such violations are addressed promptly, reinforcing the message that the laws surrounding driving and vehicle operation are in place for a reason. With the right approach, we can all contribute to a safer community.
