Aggressive Dog Attack in Hensall Leaves One Injured

A disturbing incident unfolded in Hensall, Ontario, on October 16, 2025, when a pedestrian was attacked by an aggressive dog, described by authorities as a pit bull. The attack occurred just before 1:00 p.m. in the Village of Hensall, part of the Municipality of Bluewater.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received reports of the aggressive canine and promptly dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the dog running at large, displaying aggressive behaviour that posed an immediate threat to public safety. In a bid to neutralize the situation, one of the officers discharged their firearm towards the dog, which subsequently fled the area. While it is believed that the dog may have been hit during the incident, its current condition remains unknown.

The injured individual was quickly transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries. The attack has raised alarms within the community, particularly as the dog was seen fleeing southbound through the area, close to an elementary school. In light of this, police advised the school to keep students indoors until the situation could be resolved.

Officers monitored the dog as it ran through nearby farm fields and into a wooded area west of London Road. The animal is described as weighing approximately 120 pounds, predominantly white in colour with some black markings. The OPP has since been canvassing the area to alert residents about the incident and to gather any additional information that may lead to the dog’s capture.

This attack underlines the importance of responsible pet ownership and community vigilance. As the OPP continues their efforts to locate the dog, residents are urged to report any sightings to help ensure the safety of the community.

The incident has sparked discussions about the presence of aggressive animals in residential areas and the measures that can be taken to prevent such attacks in the future. As Ontario grapples with the implications of dog ownership, incidents like this serve as a reminder of the potential dangers that can arise when pets are not properly contained or trained.

The OPP will provide updates as the situation develops, and residents of Hensall are encouraged to remain alert and cautious in the coming days.
