Shoplifter Arrested After Foot Chase in Exeter, Huron County

In a swift response to a shoplifting incident, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a man on September 30, 2025, at a retail store located on Thames Road East in Exeter. The suspect, identified as Trent Taylor, 37, of no fixed address, now faces multiple charges, including Theft Under $5,000 and Resist Peace Officer.

The incident unfolded just before 4:00 p.m. when police received a call regarding an individual reportedly stealing items from the store. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and located Taylor, who immediately attempted to flee on foot. This prompted a brief chase, during which Taylor resisted arrest. However, police were able to apprehend him after a short pursuit, handcuffing him despite his efforts to evade capture.

Upon taking Taylor into custody, officers discovered the stolen items in his possession. Although he initially refused to identify himself, police were later able to confirm his identity through investigative work.

Taylor now faces serious charges stemming from this incident, and the OPP is reminding the public that theft and resisting arrest are offenses that will be met with firm enforcement. The police have made it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated in the community, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining public safety and order.

As communities continue to face challenges related to theft and property crime, incidents like this serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the role of law enforcement in addressing these issues. The OPP encourages anyone with information about thefts or suspicious activity to report it promptly to help keep their communities safe.

The case against Trent Taylor will now proceed through the judicial system, where he will be held accountable for his actions. The OPP will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
