Firearm and Armour-Piercing Rounds Seized from Kirkfield Man During Kawartha Lakes Traffic Stop

In a significant enforcement action, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a 28-year-old man from Kirkfield following a traffic stop on Highway 35 in Kawartha Lakes. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 15, around 9:07 PM, when officers responded to a complaint regarding a vehicle stopped in a live lane at Thunderbridge Road.

Upon arrival, police found the vehicle and initiated an investigation, which quickly escalated. The driver, identified as Austin Dupuis, was apprehended and charged with a total of 14 offences, including serious firearm-related charges.

Among the charges against Dupuis are unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He also faces charges for carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a Schedule 1 substance with intent to traffic, specifically opioids.

The OPP reported that during the investigation, officers seized not only a firearm but also armour-piercing rounds, raising concerns about the potential danger posed by such items on the streets. The presence of these rounds suggests a serious level of intent and raises questions about public safety.

This incident underscores ongoing challenges law enforcement faces regarding illegal firearms and drug trafficking in Ontario. With rising concerns about gun violence and drug-related issues in communities, the OPP’s proactive measures in this case highlight their commitment to ensuring public safety.

Dupuis is scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges against him. The OPP reminds the public to report any suspicious activity, as community involvement plays a crucial role in maintaining safety on Ontario’s roads and in its communities.

As this story develops, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and swift action by law enforcement to tackle the pressing issues of firearms and drug trafficking in the region.
