Guelph-Eramosa Man Charged with Child Luring and Child Pornography Offenses
A 39-year-old resident of Guelph-Eramosa Township has been arrested and charged by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as part of an ongoing child luring investigation. Daniel Thomas Ridgeway faces serious allegations, including possession of child pornography and luring a minor using telecommunications.
The investigation initiated after a public complaint was lodged on June 11, 2024. Following a thorough inquiry by the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, law enforcement officials apprehended Ridgeway on October 15, 2025. He has been charged with three counts under the Criminal Code:
-
Possession of child pornography
-
Luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication
-
Making prints, publishing, or possessing for the purpose of publication any child pornography
These charges reflect a growing concern regarding child safety in the digital age, as online platforms increasingly become avenues for predators to exploit vulnerable youth.
Ridgeway is currently in custody, awaiting a bail hearing. He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on the same day of his arrest. The swift action by the OPP in this case underscores their commitment to addressing crimes against children, which have profound impacts on individuals and communities alike.
The OPP encourages anyone with information regarding this investigation or similar incidents to come forward. The importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement cannot be overstated, as it plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our children.
As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the need for ongoing discussions about online safety, parental vigilance, and the responsibility of internet service providers to protect minors from predatory behavior. The community will be closely watching as this serious matter progresses through the judicial system.
