Quinte West Motorist Cameron Kimmett Charged with Impaired Driving and Cannabis Offences
In a significant enforcement action, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Quinte West have charged a motorist with impaired driving and several cannabis-related offences following a routine traffic stop on October 12, 2025.
At approximately 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, officers initiated a traffic stop due to speeding. During the interaction, officers suspected that the driver, Cameron Kimmett, 23, from Trenton, may have been under the influence of alcohol and cannabis. This suspicion led to the administration of an Alcohol Screening Device (ASD), which confirmed the officers’ concerns.
Kimmett was subsequently arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing, where the results prompted multiple charges against him. He now faces serious allegations, including:
-
Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
-
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
-
Speeding 1 - 49 km over the posted limit
-
Fail to notify change of address
-
Possession of over 30 grams of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place
-
Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
-
Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
As part of the enforcement action, Kimmett was released from custody but is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. The law enforcement agency also impounded his vehicle for seven days, and his driver’s license has been suspended for 90 days.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing issue of impaired driving in Ontario, particularly with the growing prevalence of cannabis use since its legalization. The OPP continues to emphasize the importance of road safety and the legal repercussions of driving under the influence.
The Quinte West OPP encourages community members to report any suspected impaired driving to ensure the safety of all road users. This recent case highlights the diligence of local law enforcement in combating impaired driving and upholding public safety.
