Driver Arrested After Stolen Car Crashes into Hydro Pole in South Glengarry

A single-vehicle collision involving a stolen car has led to the arrest of a man in South Glengarry, Ontario. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, shortly after 2:00 PM, on County Road 2, near Simser Road, east of Cornwall.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) from the Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry (SD&G) Detachment, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a hydro pole with enough force to completely shear it off. This left power lines hanging precariously above the roadway, creating a hazardous situation for motorists.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man exit the vehicle and flee on foot immediately following the collision. While the initial concern for the suspect’s well-being prompted officers to search for him, it was soon discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen.

In response to the situation, the OPP deployed their Canine Unit to assist in locating the suspect. Fortunately, he was found quickly and was reported to have sustained no serious injuries from the crash. However, he was transported to a local hospital for precautionary evaluation.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with stolen vehicles and the unpredictable nature of those who operate them. The OPP has not yet released the name of the individual arrested, as the investigation continues.

Residents in the area experienced brief disruptions in power due to the collision, highlighting the potential community impact of such reckless actions. As the investigation unfolds, the OPP is likely to provide further updates regarding the charges faced by the suspect, who now faces significant legal repercussions for his involvement in the incident.

This case underscores the ongoing issues related to vehicle theft and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity. The authorities encourage residents to remain alert and report any stolen vehicles or suspicious behaviour to help keep their communities safe.
