A recent investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Northumberland has culminated in the arrest of two suspects linked to an illegal cannabis grow operation. This significant bust was initiated by a dropped 911 call, which prompted police to respond to a residence on 6th Line in Port Hope.

On October 10, 2025, at approximately 5:40 p.m., OPP officers arrived at the location after receiving the dropped call. Upon their arrival, they discovered what appeared to be an extensive and illegal cannabis cultivation operation. The situation quickly escalated as police executed a search warrant with the aid of the OPP Peterborough-Northumberland Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU).

The operation yielded remarkable results: police seized over 1,000 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of around $1 million. Additionally, officers located more than 500 pounds of processed cannabis on the property. The sheer scale of the operation underscores ongoing concerns regarding illegal cannabis production and distribution in the region.

Two individuals were arrested at the scene: Yikai DING, 59, with no fixed address, and Xiuqi KIU, 69, from Markham. Both have been charged with serious offences, including possession, production, sale, and distribution of illicit cannabis. Following their arrest, the suspects were held for bail and are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
