Trenton Man Charged with Impaired Driving in Quinte West Incident
In a significant enforcement action, a 29-year-old man from Trenton has been charged following an impaired driving incident in Quinte West. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the arrest took place on October 13, 2025, during a routine traffic stop around 1:30 PM.
Officers from the Quinte West Detachment observed signs that the driver may be under the influence of alcohol. Consequently, the driver was taken into custody for further testing at the detachment. The results of this testing led to the formal charges being laid against Eric Koning.
Koning faces multiple charges, including operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams, and obstructing a vehicle’s license plate. In response to the severity of the situation, law enforcement has moved to impound his vehicle for seven days. Furthermore, his driver’s license has been suspended for a period of 90 days.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by the OPP to combat impaired driving—a serious issue that poses significant risks to public safety. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired driving by calling 9-1-1, emphasizing that such actions could potentially save lives.
Koning has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville. As the legal proceedings unfold, this case serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers associated with impaired driving and the importance of responsible road behaviour.
