Walkerton Man Arrested for Impaired ATV Operation After Traffic Violation

In an alarming incident highlighting the dangers of impaired driving, a 25-year-old resident of Walkerton has been arrested for operating an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) under the influence. The arrest was made by the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on October 4, 2025, after the rider was observed committing several traffic violations.

At around 6:35 p.m., an OPP officer parked along Colborne Street South noticed an ATV emerging from an alleyway. The officer quickly identified multiple infractions: the rider was not wearing a helmet, the ATV bore no number plate, and he failed to stop for a stop sign. These violations prompted the officer to initiate a traffic stop.

Upon speaking to the rider, identified as Sean Comyn, the officer detected signs of impairment. Comyn was subsequently arrested and transported for further testing, which confirmed his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was over the legal limit.

Comyn now faces several charges, including:

  • Operation while impaired (BAC 80+), under the Criminal Code of Canada.

  • Driving while under suspension, in violation of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

  • Riding without a helmet, also a breach of HTA regulations.

  • Operating an off-road vehicle without a number plate, violating the Off-Road Vehicles Act (ORVA).

He is scheduled to appear at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice on November 5, 2025, to respond to these charges.

This incident serves as a critical reminder of the importance of road safety, not just for drivers but for all road users. Impaired driving remains a serious issue across Ontario, and authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious or dangerous driving behaviour to prevent further incidents.

The South Bruce OPP encourages anyone with additional information related to this case or similar incidents to come forward. As the province continues to prioritize road safety, it is crucial for residents to adhere to traffic laws and ensure they are fit to drive, regardless of the vehicle type.
