Lanark Highlands Man Charged with Impaired Driving After RIDE Check in Carleton Place
In a significant enforcement effort to curb impaired driving, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Lanark Highlands Township resident following a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check conducted in Carleton Place.
The incident took place late Sunday evening, October 12, 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m. Officers were actively monitoring the area for potential impaired drivers when they stopped a vehicle for inspection.
During the check, officers utilized an approved roadside alcohol screening device. The driver, identified as 35-year-old John Charbonneau, was found to be operating the vehicle while impaired. Following the screening, Charbonneau was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment in Carleton Place for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Charbonneau has been charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus). This charge underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to ensure road safety and discourage impaired driving in Ontario.
Impaired driving remains a serious concern, with the OPP continuously conducting RIDE checks across the province to deter this dangerous behaviour. The public is reminded of the importance of making responsible choices when it comes to drinking and driving, particularly as we approach the holiday season.
The OPP encourages all drivers to remain vigilant and to report any suspected impaired drivers to help keep Ontario roads safe for everyone.
