Eight Stunt Drivers Charged by Wellington OPP Over Thanksgiving Weekend
During the Thanksgiving long weekend, the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) demonstrated a firm commitment to road safety by charging eight motorists with stunt driving. This proactive enforcement serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of reckless driving in Ontario.
Stunt driving is defined in Ontario as exceeding the speed limit significantly. Specifically, drivers can be charged for speeding 40 km/h or more over the limit when it is less than 80 km/h, 50 km/h or more over the limit when it is 80 km/h or higher, or for driving at 150 km/h or more anywhere in the province.
On October 10, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man from Erin was pulled over for travelling over 60 km/h above the posted speed limit. He was charged with multiple offenses, including performing a stunt by excessive speed, failing to surrender his driver’s licence, and failing to provide a permit for his vehicle.
Later that same day, around 11:00 p.m., another 20-year-old, this time from Ancaster, was caught driving 50 km/h over the speed limit. He also faced charges for stunt driving and careless driving.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern the OPP has observed, particularly during long weekends when road traffic increases. The aggressive enforcement of stunt driving laws is essential not only for the safety of the drivers involved but also for the well-being of all road users.
The OPP’s efforts in Wellington County are part of a larger strategy to combat dangerous driving behaviors across Ontario. By taking swift action against those who choose to endanger themselves and others, the OPP aims to foster a culture of safe driving.
As the holiday period draws to a close, authorities urge motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly. The consequences of stunt driving can be severe, not just in terms of legal penalties but also the potential for accidents that can lead to injury or loss of life.
The OPP’s commitment to maintaining safe roadways is crucial, especially during times when many families are travelling. By holding stunt drivers accountable, the Wellington OPP is taking significant steps towards ensuring that Ontario’s roads remain safe for everyone.
