Three Impaired Drivers Charged During Thanksgiving Weekend in Huntsville
In a concerning reminder of the risks associated with impaired driving, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huntsville Detachment reported the arrest of three individuals over the Thanksgiving long weekend for driving under the influence.
The OPP’s proactive approach included conducting R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) checks in an effort to ensure road safety during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
On October 6, 2025, at approximately 2:53 a.m., officers were stationed on Brunel Road when they observed a vehicle that exhibited signs of impairment. Following an investigation, police charged 25-year-old James Zingone from Etobicoke, Ontario, with multiple offenses. These include operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired by blood drug concentration, and possession of a Schedule I substance. Zingone has been released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on November 4, 2025.
The vigilance of local law enforcement did not stop there. On October 12, 2025, at about 10:55 a.m., another R.I.D.E. check resulted in two additional arrests. Both of these drivers were also charged with impaired-related offenses, underscoring the ongoing challenge of impaired driving in the region.
The OPP’s efforts during this holiday weekend align with a broader commitment to road safety, particularly as celebratory occasions often lead to increased alcohol consumption. This initiative aims to deter impaired driving and promote responsible behaviour among motorists.
As Ontario continues to grapple with the implications of impaired driving, the OPP’s actions serve as a crucial reminder of the importance of safe driving practices. Community members are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers and to always prioritize safety on the roads.
The Huntsville area, with its beautiful landscapes and vibrant community events, deserves safety and accountability behind the wheel. The OPP’s commitment to reducing impaired driving is an ongoing effort that benefits everyone who travels in the region.
