North Bruce Peninsula Man Charged with Impaired Driving After Collision with Telephone Pole

A resident of North Bruce Peninsula is facing serious legal consequences after a single-vehicle collision on October 13, 2025. Scott Blight, 58, has been charged with impaired driving following an incident on Stokes Bay Road where he reportedly swerved to avoid a deer, lost control of his vehicle, and struck a telephone pole.

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received the call regarding the collision at approximately 8:10 p.m. Fortunately, Blight was not injured in the crash. However, the incident raised immediate concerns about impaired driving, leading to the investigation by the responding officers.

As a result of the investigation, Blight has been charged with two counts related to impaired driving: Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Operation while Impaired - 80 plus. These charges indicate that he was operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.

In accordance with Ontario’s strict impaired driving laws, Blight faces a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) along with a seven-day vehicle impoundment. These measures are part of the province’s ongoing efforts to combat impaired driving and ensure the safety of all road users.

Blight has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on November 6, 2025. The OPP has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety on Ontario’s roadways, urging the public to report any instances of impaired driving by calling 911 during emergencies.

Impaired driving remains a serious issue across Canada, and the OPP’s swift action in this case underscores the ongoing need for vigilance. With the holiday season approaching, the message to drivers is clear: responsible driving saves lives.
