Two Charged with Murder Following Shooting in Ginoogaming First Nation


In a troubling development for the Ginoogaming First Nation community, two males have been charged with second-degree murder following a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of October 8, 2025. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the incident took place around 2:15 a.m. on Echum Drive, where law enforcement responded to reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, officers found one individual deceased at the scene and another with injuries, prompting an immediate investigation. The OPP, in conjunction with the Anishinabek Police Service, swiftly identified the suspects involved in the shooting.

Eighteen-year-old Quintin Hooper and a 15-year-old, both hailing from Brampton, have been charged with serious offenses under the Criminal Code. These include second-degree murder under section 235(1) and attempted murder using a firearm under section 239(1)(a.1). Both suspects are currently in custody and are expected to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay for their first court date.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the OPP’s North West Region Crime Unit actively collaborating with the Anishinabek Police Service and operating under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.
