Perth County Police Raise $25,000 for Childhood Cancer Research at Cops for Cancer Event
In a commendable show of community spirit and commitment to a vital cause, the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), in collaboration with the Stratford Police Service (SPS), hosted their third annual Cops for Cancer charity event on September 27, 2025, at Keterson Park in Mitchell. The event aimed to raise funds for childhood cancer research, with a target of $25,000.
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., uniformed and civilian members from both police services participated in various activities, including head-shaving challenges, to boost donations. Attendees were treated to an impressive display of police vehicles, including cruisers, ATVs, and tactical response units, which provided an educational glimpse into the equipment used by law enforcement.
The event featured a BBQ and a raffle with a wide array of prizes donated by local businesses and community members. All proceeds collected from these activities contributed to the overall fundraising goal.
The hard work and dedication of both the OPP and SPS paid off, as the event successfully exceeded its target, raising a total of $25,010.20 for childhood cancer research. This achievement highlights the community’s generosity and the commitment of local law enforcement to support important health initiatives.
OPP Operations Manager Staff Sergeant David Sinko expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received during the event. “I would like to thank everyone that has contributed to our 2025 Cops for Cancer fundraising effort this year,” Sinko stated. “Together with our partners at the Stratford Police Service, and many very generous donations of raffle prizes, food for our event, and cash, we were able to raise over $25,000 in the fight against childhood cancer!”
The Cops for Cancer initiative not only strengthens the bond between law enforcement and the community but also raises awareness of the challenges faced by children battling cancer. Such events play a critical role in funding research that can lead to better treatments and outcomes for young patients.
As Cops for Cancer continues to gain traction, it serves as a reminder of the power of community collaboration and the importance of supporting health initiatives that can change lives. The success of this year’s event in West Perth sets a positive precedent for future fundraising efforts and underscores the essential role of local police in championing health causes.
