Suspect Charged After Assault on Officer in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation
In a concerning incident on October 4, 2025, an officer from the Anishinabek Police Service (APS) was assaulted during a traffic stop in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. The encounter escalated quickly, leading to a brief shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area as authorities searched for the suspect.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., the officer attempted to pull over a vehicle on Middle Road. The driver, however, failed to stop, prompting a pursuit. Upon locating the vehicle, the officer engaged with the driver, during which the officer was assaulted with a weapon and the suspect fled on foot.
The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. In response to the alarming situation, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to assist the APS with the ongoing investigation.
Thanks to a coordinated effort between the APS and OPP, the suspect was apprehended without further incident, leading to the lifting of the shelter-in-place order.
As a result of the investigation, a male suspect from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation has been charged with aggravated assault, among other Criminal Code offences.
